SUN DEITY | 2023
This is an initial version of the character that I'm currently expanding on for a personal project as a final boss.
The design is based primarily off the concept of biblically accurate angels, combined with different depictions of the devil, and is an antagonist with a complex relationship to the main character.
The creature is meant to be both beautiful and unsettling, similarly to a mythological chimera. The color palette references clear skies and sunlight, with yellow, blue, and gold being the choice hues. In terms of shape language, I opted for sharp angles for the character's body, and softer shapes for the character's hair and wings. At the same time, I referenced animal characteristics, such as lions' manes, and outstretched wings being used for intimidation by birds.
My primary concern with this project was making sure that the creature looks threatening, but not entirely terrifying, to show their complex nature revealed throughout the story of the game.
Currently, I am working on the character's low-poly model and rig for in-game implementation.
